This WoW gold guide is meant to give you some basic tips for getting WoW gold. In the WoW world, gold is everything. Want to get an epic mount or beef up that armour? You’re going to need gold. Want to learn a production profession? You’re going to need gold for recipes and schematics.

There are a few different ways to get WoW gold. Here are a few tips.

Gather Mats and Sell Them

In the early levels especially (below 40), the best way to get gold is to gather mats (materials) and sell them.

Although many occupations may be better suited to your character’s class (for example, blacksmithing is good if you’re a warrior because you can get make your own armor), by far the best way to get gold is to have two of the gathering professions: mining, herbalism, or skinning. If you have one or two of the gathering professions you can gather mats for free and sell them for 100% profit.

My recommendation is to choose mining and herbalism. These seem to be the best for getting gold the fastest. Later when you have enough gold, you can think about dropping the gathering professions and getting a production profession instead if you want.

Or instead of dropping the gathering professions later, you could also keep an alt character with the gathering professions and just have it mail your other characters the gold it makes.

One way to gather items efficiently and quickly is to download the Routes addon, the GatherMate Data addon, and the GatherMate addon. These addons will show the shortest route on your map between spawnpoints and will also show nodes as dots. You can easily flip between Herbalism and Mining modes.

Tip: make sure you buy a few 14-slot bags early on so that you can gather lots of mats without filling up all your slots.

Tip: Also a lot of newbies make the mistake of selling their items to vendors, when you can make a much bigger profit by selling on the Auction House.

Buy and Sell on the Auction House

Just like in real-life on eBay, there are an awful lot of people who under price the items they sell because they don’t know what they’re worth. Making a nice income at the AH can be as simple as comparing how much something usually sells for with its current price. If someone is selling it for a lot less, buy it up and resell it at a reasonable price.

A good tool to enable you to do this is the Auctioneer addon (free of course). This add on will build a little db of all the items on the AH and will analyze them for you, including the market price and the price it has been purchased for in the past.
